Young is just one of three new signings at Old Trafford so far this summer, along with goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid and defender Phil Jones from Blackburn. Both Young and Jones were also heavily courted by United's arch-rivals Liverpool, but they ultimately decided to make the move to Old Trafford.
And while many have questioned whether both are worth the money that was paid to keep them away from Liverpool's clutches, Young has vowed to pay back every penny that United spent on him. "The club showed interest in me for a reason," Young said, according to the Daily Mail. "They've seen something in me, so I'll just keep on doing what I've been doing and take my game to another level."
Young has already impressed in his first two games on United's pre-season tour of America, but the England international admits it is the start of the season proper that he is genuinely looking towards.
"I think I've done myself proud in the two games, and hopefully I can carry on.
"I've always wanted to challenge myself, play in the Champions League and challenge for the title.
"I can't wait for the next games [on the tour] and to get into the Premier League season."Young also admitted knowing some of the United players from England duty has helped him settle in at the club, and has praised the club's winning mentality.
"I've started really well and it's an easy place to settle. I play with a few of the boys for England and that helps. "As soon as you get into the team and start training you can see they all want to win. It makes you want to go out and do the same."
Young also acknowledged that United would be the team to beat this coming season, but admits he is hopeful of playing his part in the club's quest for a record 20th league title. "You see United as the club everyone wants to beat so we have to raise our standard to retain that title and make it number 20."United
continue their tour of America on Saturday when they take on MLS outfit Chicago Fire.
